One School, Two Tracks - What does that mean?

The School of Worship is one school with the option of two different tracks. Every SOW student must choose either the Music Track or the Media Arts Track.  All students take the core theological classes together, but when it comes to practical courses, we split apart. For example, when we have our weekly chapel or Psalms class we are all together, but while Music Track students are in Music Theory class, the Media Arts Track students would be in Video Production class.

Can I do both?
Every prospective student must apply to only one track. However, we do offer small-group labs in all disciplines from specific music instruments to specific media production software. All SOW students are allowed to choose their labs from any discipline. Thus, a Music Track student can take a Photoshop lab if they desire or a Media Arts student can take an electric guitar lab if they desire to do so. This is great for those students who have an interest in both Music and the Media Arts.

What are Labs?
Labs are our intensive small group classes that give students the opportunity to learn and interact with their instructors in a personalized setting. Students have the opportunity to participate in six labs over the course of the program and are able to select the labs of their choice from a list of offerings that range from specific music instrument instruction to media production software instruction. Each lab will generally have four to ten students, and they meet every week for up to seven weeks. Labs are designed to allow students to receive personalized instruction and provide the opportunity for interaction with the instructor in a no-pressure environment.

Does the school offer any financial aid or scholarships?

Our desire is to see those called to ministry trained for the ministry and we have developed the program to be as affordable and accessible as possible, therefore, we are not able to offer any financial aid or scholarships. However, we do offer an affordable payment plan. See the ADMISSIONS page on this website.

Is the School of Worship an accredited school?
No, the School of Worship is not an accredited school. The Philosophy of Ministry at Calvary Chapel is to offer biblical courses and ministry classes that are unregulated by the state and free from certain influences. We also desire to make the school affordable and accessible to the man or woman who simply wants to be trained and equipped for ministry. The School of Worship does offer a certificate of completion that acknowledges the hard work and faithfulness of each student.

Are these credits transferable?
Though the school is not accredited, there are now several Christian colleges and ministries accepting some of our credits for transfer including Calvary Chapel Bible College, Calvary Chapel University, and more.  If you have specific questions about transferability of credits, call the Registrar’s Office of the institution you desire to attend.

Does the School of Worship accept international students?
Yes. We do accept international students and would love the opportunity to encourage them in their gifts. However, since we are not an accredited school, our students must obtain visitor's visas meaning they cannot work or attend a university while in the USA. It is the responsibility of the student (upon acceptance) to apply for and obtain a visa. We would caution you to not purchase your flights or make any financial commitments until you have secured your visa.

Can I start the program in the spring semester?
Due to the way the program is designed, with classes increasing in difficulty and building on each other over the course of the two semesters, students are only able to begin in the fall.

Does the school provide housing?
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer “on-campus” housing for students.  However, we do have an off-campus girl's house and an off-campus guy's house with limited spots for rent each year (not included in tuition).  After the houses are full, we try to connect students with housing openings or rooms for rent as they come available.  Ultimately, it is the student's responsibility to secure housing for themselves.  For more information on our off-campus houses please email us at sow@calvarychapel.com.

Is there an age requirement?
No, there is not an age requirement. However, we do require each student to have a high school diploma or have completed a G.E.D. program. Some homeschool students are able to attend their senior year if a majority of their high school workload is already completed (these exceptions must exhibit a higher level of spiritual maturity that would enable them to focus in this environment).

How much musical experience do I need to have to be accepted?
Though the school does not hold auditions, a basic level of experience and music knowledge is required for each student to be able to grow and complete the program. We try to evaluate that needed level to the best of our ability during our application and screening process. The program does require students to have some musical foundation and ability in order to participate and pass.
As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
